The Fading Rural Childhood Fun and the Hidden Worries in Growth
Ping Ting he
In the long river of memory, rural childhood is like a bright pearl, exuding a unique and charming radiance. Xie Yonghua's Records of the Stone Mountain and Four Seasons on the Grain - drying Ground outline for us pictures of rural childhood full of innocence and joy. However, through these pictures, we can also deeply feel the impact of the changes of the times and the complex scenes behind the growth of rural children.
Innocence is the Most Precious Quality in Human Society
On that stone mountain, the innocence of children is fully revealed. They dig wild vegetables, play hide - and - seek, and play games on the mountain, freely releasing their nature. Their clear laughter and innocent shouts echo in every corner. When digging wild vegetables, children's eyes are full of curiosity and the light of exploration. They may not care about the uses of wild vegetables, but simply enjoy the fun of discovery. When playing hide - and - seek, their small bodies shuttle nimbly among the rocks. The nervous and excited mood makes them forget all their troubles. When playing games, simple rules can make them immerse themselves in it and have great fun. On the stone mountain, stories about peanut fruits and stories of youthful ignorance are constantly unfolding. These stories become vivid and interesting because of the innocence of children. They bloom freely on the stone mountain, cheering and shouting. The stone mountain has become a paradise for them to vent their emotions. Here, they don't need to pretend or worry, showing the most real and pure selves.
Similarly, on the grain - drying ground, children pick wild flowers and vegetables, and then happily gather together to admire their "victory fruits". Their faces full of a sense of achievement are as bright as the flowers in spring. They are full of curiosity about the world. Every wild flower and every wild vegetable is a treasure bestowed by nature in their eyes. In this process, there is no dispute over interests and no pollution of the secular world. There is only a pure pursuit of beauty and love for life. Innocence is so precious. It is like a clear spring flowing in the blood of human society, nourishing our hearts, allowing us to still maintain our yearning and pursuit for beauty in the complex world.
Urbanization is Making Pure Rural Childhood Fun Disappear
Once upon a time, the laughter and cheers on the stone mountain and the grain - drying ground were gradually covered by the noise of the city. With the advancement of urbanization, the appearance of the countryside has changed dramatically. The grain - drying ground has been replaced by a farmers' market. The place that once carried countless joys of children has now become a place for people to trade. Children can no longer play freely on the grain - drying ground, and those childhood stories about peanuts can only become a fading afterglow in memory. In the market, people are busy wandering, running around for life, and have long forgotten the stories that once happened on the grain - drying ground. The wave of urbanization has not only changed the material form of the countryside but also impacted the rural culture and emotional bonds.
Once, children played freely on the stone mountain. However, now, the stone mountain may also face the fate of being developed and transformed. With the expansion of the city, rural land is constantly being expropriated, and the once natural paradise is gradually being replaced by reinforced concrete. Children have lost their "secret base" and the place where they can freely release their innocence. Urbanization has brought convenience and development, but at the same time, it has made the pure rural childhood fun gradually disappear. Children no longer have the opportunity to play all over the mountains and fields, and no longer have the experience of exploring nature on the stone mountain. They are bound in the narrow space of the city, and the color of their childhood has become monotonous and dull. The disappearance of this childhood fun is not only a regret for children themselves but also a loss of the entire social and cultural inheritance. The simple and innocent spirit contained in rural childhood fun cannot be given by urban civilization. Now, this precious cultural wealth is gradually fading away with the pace of urbanization.
Rural Children Have Strong Survival Abilities
The experience of digging wild vegetables on the stone mountain fully demonstrates the strong survival abilities of rural children. They know which wild vegetables are edible, how to distinguish them, and can skillfully dig them out. This ability to recognize and utilize nature is lacking in urban children. In the rural environment, children come into contact with nature from an early age. In their close contact with the land, mountains, and rivers, they learn survival skills. They can find peanut fruits on the stone mountain, understand their growth habits, and know when to harvest. In the life on the grain - drying ground, children also learn many survival skills. In the process of playing all over the mountains and fields, they get to know various wild flowers and vegetables, knowing which can be picked and which need to be avoided. This adaptability to the natural environment and the mastery of survival skills enable rural children to be more calm and composed when facing difficulties.
Compared with urban children, the living environment of rural children is relatively difficult, but this has also tempered their will and abilities. They have participated in family labor since childhood, helping their parents with housework and farm work, which has cultivated their sense of responsibility and practical ability. On the stone mountain, children face various terrains and natural conditions and learn how to protect themselves and deal with emergencies. On the grain - drying ground, in their interaction with their little friends, they learn to cooperate and share, which are all important components of survival abilities. Rural children gradually grow into individuals with strong survival abilities through the tempering of nature and life. These abilities of theirs will lay a solid foundation for their future life path.
There are Hidden Risks Due to Lack of Supervision in the Growth of Rural Children
However, we cannot ignore the problems in the growth process of rural children. In Records of the Stone Mountain, the author mentioned that he picked lichen on the stone mountain. Because he didn't store and clean it properly, he was scolded by his grandmother. This plot reflects that in the growth process of rural children, due to their parents being busy with farm work or other affairs, they may be 疏于 supervised. When facing their own behaviors, children lack correct guidance and education, resulting in some bad habits. In the story of the grain - drying ground, Gouyazi forcibly snatched the labor fruits of other children, and then the disputes caused by peanuts and the small frictions among adults all had a negative impact on the growth of children. In this process, if parents or teachers could intervene in time to guide children to correctly handle contradictions and conflicts and cultivate their good moral character and behavior habits, the growth of children would be healthier.
In the growth process of rural children, they often lack sufficient safety education. When playing on the stone mountain, they may face some potential dangers, such as falling and being scratched by stones. In the absence of adult supervision, these dangers may cause harm to children's bodies. On the grain - drying ground, children's behaviors may also deviate due to lack of supervision. For example, when playing, they may accidentally damage the items dried on the grain - drying ground, triggering unnecessary conflicts. In addition, due to the relatively scarce educational resources in rural areas, children may not receive timely attention and help in learning and psychological growth. Some children may gradually lose interest in learning due to learning difficulties, and some children may have psychological problems due to setbacks in life. However, due to the lack of effective supervision and guidance, these problems often cannot be solved in time, having an adverse impact on the future development of children.
To sum up, the innocence and beauty of rural childhood are nostalgic, and the innocence and strong survival abilities shown by rural children are worthy of our cherishing. However, the process of urbanization is mercilessly devouring rural childhood fun, and at the same time, the hidden risks brought about by the lack of supervision in the growth process of rural children cannot be ignored. We should, while pursuing urbanization development, pay attention to the protection and inheritance of rural culture, and create a growth environment for children that allows them to enjoy the achievements of modern civilization while retaining the pure memories of rural areas. At the same time, we should strengthen the supervision and education of rural children, guide them to grow up healthily, and make their future full of hope. Only in this way can we retain those precious rural childhood fun in the changes of the times and make the growth path of rural children brighter.
